Most of the work will be new, and much of it will be challenging. You will be stretched! We hope you will find that there is no greater satisfaction than mastering something you thought you would never be able to do. You will discover talents that you never knew you had, and achieve things that you thought were beyond you. When you do, you will find staff who will share your excitement and enthusiasm, for they too expect great things of you.
You will also need to learn to study in new ways. You will not be spoon-fed, and you will need to study independently. Your tutors will help you to develop the skills necessary to do this through a “learning to learn” programme. We expect you to study after school but we also encourage you to take part in evening events and activities.
Whilst it is important that you relax and enjoy the company of your friends when you have finished your work, we believe that you need to study for around three hours outside the school day, either in your bedroom or in the computer rooms, which are open until 9pm Monday to Thursday.
By the time you finish your 6th Form course with us you should be quite capable of studying at a higher level at university or college.
"I’ve now been here for two and a half years and it’s the best thing I ever did. I feel more confident and happier – I only wish I’d come here in Year 7." A past 6th Former
All our courses fit into the national framework of qualifications and most attract UCAS tariff points. Mary Hare also offers specialist classes for those students who need to take English or Maths GCSE again. If there are any courses not listed in the syllabus that you would like to study, please contact the school. We may be able to offer additional subjects delivered in partnership with local providers.
If you are still unsure what to study for 6th Form, to get a better idea why not come along to one of our 6th Form Information Afternoons and speak to the subject teachers of the subjects you might be interested in?
"I like doing my sixth form studies here, there is a whole range of different subjects, there are TAs and teachers who are there to help you." A former 6th Former

(ADVANCED SUBSIDIARY AND ADVANCED LEVEL)
Students will normally take three Advanced Courses and a qualification in Key Skills.
Equivalent to one full A level, awarded at the end of Year 13. Can be combined with AS/A level.
We offer a range of different options for students who don't have the necessary qualifications to study A levels or for those students who have decided to pursue a more vocational route. We are very flexible in our approach and will try to arrange a programme to suit the needs of each individual. This approach could include any of the following:
The following are compulsory core subjects which will be studied by ALL 6th Formers alongside their chosen academic programme.
We believe in the importance of educating the whole person and we have a structured PSHE programme during which 6th Formers are encouraged to think about issues ranging from moral concerns to the management of personal finances. Visiting speakers are also invited on a regular basis. These have included magistrates, employers, former pupils, health professionals and universities.
In conjunction with another local school, all Year 12 students participate in a two day “Champions of Enterprise” event, and in addition there are opportunities for students to take part in public speaking competitions.
